Environment Department is working effectively and efficiently under the supervision of Deputy Director Environment. The department has launched various initiatives for the protection of environment.
Initiatives Launched By Environment Office
Campaign against use of empty chemical drums / containers for storage of edible items
As per the instructions of Secretary Environment Government of the Punjab, a campaign was launched against use of empty chemical drums / containers for storage of edible items like milk and water etc. Banners were displayed to educate / sensitize the public to avoid using empty chemical drums / containers for storage of edible items. Random checkings were conducted on roads to educate the milkmen to stop the use of chemical containers for carriage / storage of milk. Hand bills were also distributed to educate people.
Campaign against smoke-emitting and noise generating vehicles
Hand bills highlighting adverse effects of exhaust / smoke of vehicles and noise have been distributed among drivers and all concerned to educate them. The drivers were urged that they should get their vehicles repaired and tuned up properly.
Campaign against adulteration in petroleum products
Hand bills highlighting injurious effects of adulteration in petroleum products are being distributed to educate / sensitize all concerned.
Instructions to Municipal Administrations
Meetings with all Municipal Administration were conducted to improve Municipal Solid Waste Management to protect the environment. Necessary guidelines were forwarded to Municipal Administrations for proper collection and disposal of solid waste.
Cooperation with NGOs working on environment
Meetings with NGOs working for improvement of environment were held to plan strategy for the improvement of environment. The office collaborated with NGOs to arrange seminars on environment and actively participated in the seminars.
